Cane is the generic term for the hard outer bark of the Rattan palm. This outer bark or cane peel is cut into thin strips to be used in cane seating. There are over two hundred known species of rattan palms, ranging over a wide area of tropic and sub-tropic areas. Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines being the chief exporting areas.

Specializing in 7 Step and Press Caning

7 Step Hand Woven
This is the oldest documented caning method, originating in China. Thin strips of bamboo are woven through holes in the chair seat. Chairs that require this type of seat are characterized by holes drilled around the perimeter of the seat.
Press Caning
This differs from “7 Step” by the chair having a narrow groove going around its’ perimeter. The cane is pressed into the groove, and then a wedge shaped strip of molding called spline is forced down into the groove tightly holding the cane in place.
